Protecting Coral Reefs: Eco-Mooring Buoy Project at Maya Bay
On November 14, 2024, the Andaman Natural Resources Conservation Foundation (ANRCF), following the royal initiative of Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya, launched the Maya Bay Eco-Mooring Buoy Project. This milestone project addresses one of the most pressing threats to coral reefs — anchor damage from tourism boats — by installing eco-friendly mooring buoys to safeguard the fragile underwater ecosystem.

Event Highlights:
- Royal Endorsement: The project was guided by Princess Sirivannavari’s vision for integrated marine conservation and sustainable tourism.
- Eco-Mooring Installation: Existing mooring systems were surveyed, repaired, and expanded to prevent boats from dropping anchors directly onto coral.
- Community Training: Operators, tour guides, and local communities received training on responsible marine tourism and mooring use.
- Multi-Sector Collaboration: Supported by government agencies, the Royal Thai Navy, private businesses, and local NGOs.

Why It Matters:
Maya Bay and other Andaman sites attract thousands of tourists annually, but unmanaged tourism has caused coral destruction and habitat loss. The eco-mooring project reduces human impact, allowing reefs to regenerate while maintaining tourism in a responsible way.
This project proves that conservation and tourism can go hand in hand. ⚓🌊
