“Jazz by the Sea 2” – Patong Beach, Phuket
Date: May 19–20, 2017
Location: Dolphin Stage, Patong Beach, Phuket
Introduction:
In May 2017, the Andaman Natural Resources Conservation Foundation (ANRCF) organized Jazz by the Sea 2, a cultural and environmental celebration held at Patong Beach, Phuket. This landmark event brought together music, community, and conservation in a powerful demonstration of unity. The program not only honored the legacy of King Rama IX, who was deeply connected to jazz, but also celebrated the accession of King Rama X.

Event Highlights:
- Live Jazz Performances: Thai and international musicians performed contemporary and classical jazz pieces in tribute to King Rama IX’s passion for music.
- Cultural Celebration: The event drew thousands of attendees, including local residents, tourists, and dignitaries, who enjoyed the performances against the backdrop of Phuket’s iconic coastline.
- Conservation Messaging: Alongside the music, ANRCF used the stage to raise awareness about the importance of protecting the Andaman Sea and coastal ecosystems. Informational booths and displays provided visitors with insights into the foundation’s ongoing projects.
- Community Participation: Local businesses, hotels, and tourism operators supported the event, reinforcing the role of partnerships in sustainable development.

Why It Matters:
Jazz by the Sea 2 demonstrated that cultural events can be a powerful vehicle for environmental education. By linking art and advocacy, ANRCF reached audiences that traditional conservation campaigns might not capture. It showed that protecting the Andaman is not only a scientific or political issue but also a cultural responsibility.

Impact:
The event helped to:
- Increase public awareness of marine conservation issues.
- Strengthen Phuket’s identity as both a cultural and environmental hub.
- Build stronger ties between ANRCF, the tourism industry, and local communities.
Conclusion:
Jazz by the Sea 2 was more than a concert—it was a statement of commitment to preserve Thailand’s natural and cultural heritage. By merging jazz, community, and conservation, ANRCF created a model of how art can inspire action for the environment.
ANRCF will continue to organize cultural and environmental events that connect people to nature in creative ways. Support our future initiatives and join us in celebrating the Andaman through both culture and conservation.
